The Buzz Behind The Name
While originally something depressing like "Kids of Widowed Parents," the founders knew their name could improve but failed to find anything creative or inspiring. Melinda went on a retreat for widows raising kids. Someone that never met her and didn't know any of her story, read a letter to her. It spoke of her being God's honeybee pollinating others with His love. The letter explained that honey is made by a group of bees that have a hive, water, pollen and nectar. They work together (and not alone). New honey crops come after winter- a hard, cold season.
Thus came the inspiration for The Hive. We can't walk through grief alone. We need community and we need resources. It is a long and hard season. But healing comes when we join together.
